Elpida – Contact with Dog Spot-On Treatment

Read Elpida’s story and avoid similar situations for your cat!

Elpida came into direct contact with a dog spot-on treatment.

WARNING! Dog spot-on products are toxic to cats!

She was brought to our clinic with severe neurological symptoms (generalized seizures, hypersalivation) approximately two hours after contact with the product.

We acted immediately by administering anticonvulsant medication. It is essential to shave the entire area that came into contact with the spot-on and give a thorough bath to wash off the toxic substance from the skin.

Elpida was then hospitalized for three days in critical condition, experiencing status epilepticus for at least 24 hours. With patience and determination — from both us and her — she made it through!
She is now home, happy and healthy, having burned one of her nine lives.

2 TIPS:
✔️ If you have accidentally applied a dog spot-on to your cat, rinse and lather their back IMMEDIATELY with dish soap. Then rush to your veterinarian without delay!
✔️ If your dog has been treated with a spot-on, keep them separated from your cat for at least one day.
